When you’re living your life as both a gamer and a professional, gaming is what you do to cool off steam and being a professional being what puts food on the table, we can all agree that finding that laptop that strikes a beautiful balance between work and play can sometimes be something hard to crack. Well, I was having issues with that, until I got myself an ASUS K501UW-AB78 gaming laptop.
One of the features I love about this laptop is the fact that it comes packed with all the necessities of a gaming laptop without having all the exaggerated colors and lights that are a norm in most gaming laptops. In fact, the laptop has a gray reserved body construction which gives it that cool laid back look. You can easily use it in the office without raising any eyebrows and then turn it into your gaming workstation when you get home.
If you are the kind of person who is extremely cautious of how much weight a laptop packs because you’re constantly on the go, then this might be a good choice for you. Given the amazing features it comes loaded with, the laptop is surprisingly light, packing a weight of just 4.4lbs.
Another amazing cool feature about this laptop is the fact it has a backlit keyboard. This pretty much comes in handy for those of us who are known to go about gaming deep into the night but we always get in trouble for leaving the lights on for too long. The SonicMaster audio goes a long way in improving the sound performance by integrating features that clean your sound for maximum output experience.
In terms of performance, it runs on the 6th generation Intel Core i7-6500U processor which has a base processor of 2.50 GHz and a smart cache of 4MB. The processor is also a dual-core processor having two physical cores and four logical ones. It has an internal memory of 8GB which is currently the minimum requirement for most games. If you’re interested in running games that require more than that, you can consider opting for a better model or find a way to upgrade your RAM. In terms of battery use, the laptop can run for about five hours while going about your regular tasks.
Given my hectic schedule, I was particularly interested in finding a machine that could still perform at optimum even when I resorted to multi-tasking on my machine. This laptop has proved to be effective and efficient when running multiple tasks at once. I am yet to experience any hitches on this. Switching between tasks has amazingly been simple and fast.
The SSD technology is fairly new in the market and given its technological advantages over the HDD technology, it’s pretty much more expensive. This gaming laptop, however, comes with a 512GB storage space which ensures that you are pretty much in a position to enjoy the speed and durability that comes with using the SSD technology.
If you’re worried about the heating that comes with using such a heavy and robust machine, you need not be. In the time I have used it, I have not encountered any heating problems. The laptop comes with two fans that effectively ensure that no heat buildup occurs between the CPU and the GPU.
It comes pre-installed with Windows 10 which basically means that you get the benefit of being able to integrate your Xbox games and you get to enjoy the use of the start menu for easy access to your games. Depending on where you live, the Cortana feature is also available. (The Tech Insider, n.d.)
Given that the screen is an important factor for any gamer, the laptop has a matte display of 15.6 inches and a resolution of 1920×1080. It makes use of an NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M safely overclocking your GPU with GPU Boost 2.0. The number of games that can run on this graphics card both on ultra and high settings is quite a number, meaning you don’t have to worry about not being able to enjoy your favorite popular games.
At the end of the day, I’d say that getting this laptop was a worthwhile investment for me. It’s definitely a win for me. That means if you’re someone who is out looking for the same needs as I was, then this is a model you should totally check out.
